Hello fine readers, today I went to a ceramics class (event? something or other) with my mother and my brother after which we went shopping and out to eat and there went most of my day. During the ceramics class, I made a clay owl and enjoyed looking at the existing design and making it better.
While I didn’t get much done up till now today I promised you a special list so I’m trying something new I call the comparative list program (as I find myself funny):
- Advantages of viewing the world through a lens of (from the story of) scarcity.
- Disadvantages of viewing the world through a lens of (from the story of) scarcity.
- Advantages of viewing the world through a lens of (from the story of) plenty.
- Disadvantages of viewing the world through a lens of (from the story of) plenty.
- Not all advantages/disadvantages apply if you’re looking through a specific lens as some are mutually exclusive, different people react differently.
- Still, these lists should help you find what lens you are viewing the world through and if you know where you stand you can try to avoid cetin pitfalls and adapt your way of being for a better life.

- disadvantages are next to the empty dot.
- Some disadvantages apply as negatives of multiple advantages (as I try to line them up) and vice versa
- You find better deals
- You spend time looking for deals that you could use more effectively (make more money than your saving 50% off one dollar isn’t worth the effort)
- You may miss out on other opportunities looking to optimize what you have
- You learn to fix and reuse old products
- You find yourself using things which don’t work well and keep falling apart
- You try to find multiple uses for the things you have and you get creative in using them (ripped shirts as rags etc)
- You find your house filling with junk that you can have a use for and have trouble finding things
- You do what you can to properly store what you have and to keep it in top condition
- You spend far too much time and effort on upkeep
- You have trouble getting to things when you need them
- You are cautious about buying things you may need
- you don’t have things when you need them
- You don’t buy things that are unnecessary
- You make up justifications for buying the things you do and lose track of your own money (this is an especially vicious one but it is avoidable by asking oneself the right questions)
- You risk not getting what you need to keep yourself healthy
- You may use fewer paper towels, toilet paper, and plastic plates
- you end up using more water which may actually be causing more harm than good
- You produce less waste which is better for the environment
Scarcity seems to lead to hoarding behaviors. In addition, many of the negatives stem from priorities being based more towards short term survival then long term health even in situations of little danger.

- You buy things at high prices
- you often buy things you don’t actually need
- You don’t hesitate to get what you want
- you may lose track of how much you’re spending
- You are more likely to throw stuff out, or give stuff away, leading to a cleaner and better-kept home environment
- you may throw out something valuable
- you may buy the same thing twice as you previously thought you wouldn’t use it again
- You are more generous
- You invest in relationships
- You may get scammed
- you get to be picky
- can be perceived as being snobbish
Surprisingly Plenty seems to be more likely to lead into minimalism.
Feedback on the comparative list program and on the lists themselves would be greatly appreciated as this took a lot of effort but was a fun experiment.
